Facturier Québec online: what it does, who it is for and what it does not do
Facturier Québec comes in two versions. One is downloaded, opens in your browser and keeps everything on your computer. The other, Facturier Québec online, lives on the Internet: you sign in and find your invoices wherever you are. This article is about the second one.
1. What it does
It produces invoices in French, with GST and QST calculated on the price before tax. You choose a client, add your lines and set the due date. The tool numbers the invoice, calculates the taxes and lets you send it by email or save it as a PDF.
The result looks like that of the downloadable version. The difference is that your data follows you. An invoice started at the office can be finished on the tablet, with no file to copy from one device to another. In the app, you will find:
- your clients and your invoice history, on all your devices;
- sequential numbering, with the prefix of your choice;
- several Canadian tax regimes, or a custom setup;
- your logo, your colours and three invoice templates;
- import of a quote prepared with Soumissionnaire Québec;
- export to CSV, to Excel or to CSV for QuickBooks and Sage 50, for your accountant.
2. Who it is for
It is for freelancers and small service businesses that invoice regularly, move between computer and phone, and want a tool in French, without full accounting software. If you send only a few invoices a year, a simple template is enough. If you would rather pay once and keep your data at home, the downloadable Facturier Québec ($19 CAD) meets that need.
3. How to try it
Facturier Québec online is open to everyone. To try it, create your account at drakinfinity.ca/app: the trial lasts 14 days and needs no card. After that, the subscription costs $9 CAD a month or $89 CAD a year, plus applicable taxes.
You sign in with a link sent to your email: you enter your address, receive a magic link, click it and you are in your account. If you prefer, you can also create a password in Settings (Paramètres), Security (Sécurité). It works from any device with a browser: computer, tablet or phone.
Your database is hosted in Montréal. You can export all your data at any time, and delete your account if you leave: your data is never locked in. Some technical services, such as sending emails, come from suppliers named in the privacy policy.
4. Online payment and reminders
Online payment of invoices goes through your own Stripe account: if you connect it, your client pays directly into that account, and Stripe's fees apply. Reminders to late-paying clients are optional and are set in Settings.
5. What it does not do
A good tool says clearly where it stops. Facturier Québec online does not do the following:
- Full accounting is not part of it. There is no general ledger, bank reconciliation, financial statements or expense tracking: it issues invoices and keeps a record of them.
- Payroll is left out too: pay stubs, source deductions and records of employment are not there.
- It calculates the taxes on an invoice, but it does not prepare your GST and QST returns and does not file them with anyone.
- It gives no tax or legal advice. It applies the tax regime you choose. Whether you must register for the taxes, or which rate applies to a given client, is a question for your accountant or Revenu Québec.
- It makes no promise of compliance. It helps you produce clear, complete invoices, but it does not replace checking your own obligations.
- It needs no installation: it opens in the browser, like a website.
6. What if you would rather stay offline?
The downloadable Facturier Québec works without an Internet connection: your invoices stay on your computer, and you pay for it once. The choice between the two depends on how you work. One device and a preference for privacy: the downloadable version. Several devices and the wish to find everything in one place: the online version. Amounts before taxes.
14-day trial, no card required, then $9 CAD a month or $89 CAD a year, plus applicable taxes.
